On Sunday, we looked at Jesus’ journey to the cross from the point of view of Pontius Pilate. Pilate was the Roman governor in Judea and he had found no basis to condemn Jesus.

John chapters 13 to 17 is what is called the ‘farewell discourse’ and is when Jesus is seated around a table with his disciples sharing what is going to take place as Jesus journeys to the cross. It is a conversation where Jesus disciples try to understand the meaning of Jesus death and Jesus is preparing them for what is about to happen. There is so much within these chapters that I want to look at three key themes that emerge. 1. Jesus speaks about his purpose to come and be a servant. 2. Jesus speaks abo

In this scene where Jesus is entering Jerusalem, the heart and capital of Israel, We learn about people’s (and ours) hopes and expectations, in light of the Messiah’s identity in the word of God in the old testament - the biblical prophecies[1]. We saw how the expectations of the jewish crowed (and ours), then and now (Gollum!), can limit our perception of who God is and what he wants to do in our life as the humble king who wants all our heart. Will the people of Israel submit to the humble king? Will we?

The sermon was about the story of Lazarus from the Bible and how it can teach us about Jesus and his power over death. It also talks about how the story of Lazarus is a foreshadowing of Jesus' resurrection and how it can give us hope in the face of death. Finally, it reflects on the events in the story and what they meant for those who were there.

Hello and welcome to our church. If you are a new visitor, we have a page for you to get to know us and learn more about planning a visit.

Planning your Visit

Welcome

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 11:00am. There is plenty of free parking available on street or at our car park, or we're right next to the Salcombe Gardens bus stop on the 221. You can come a little earlier to get a free coffee and pastry, and to meet some of our welcome team.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access via our car park entrance on Pursley Road, or via the community garden on Salcombe Gardens. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There are disabled toilets in the main foyer.

Our Service

The main service begins at 11am with a warm welcome from one of our team members. Then follows a time of sung worship, led by our band. We typically have 3 or 4 songs lasting approximately 20 minutes. We will spend time praying together, listening to what God might be saying.  This might seem strange the first time you hear it but it’s all part of our connecting with God. We then share news and notices, usually about what’s going on in the life of the church. We then have a talk, looking at what faith and following Jesus looks like today. We then finish with a time of worshipping and responding to God.

Growing together

We have a great programme lined up for kids  and youth. During term time we have Tots church (2-4s) and Kids church (4-11s) where our kids can make friends and explore faith through stories, songs and creative fun. This runs through all the service most of the time, apart from where we share Family Communion or have All Age Worship.  We're a pretty relaxed and messy church, so babies and younger kids can make themselves at home in the soft play during the service.

Our Youth Church (11-16s) runs after the worship, and involves lots of snacks, games and discussion. We have an active Young Adults Group as part of our small groups, and activities for Seniors and everything in-between, so there is space for everyone to make friends and grow together.

Getting Connected

Small Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends and grow together. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, some afternoons and some evenings. Check out Small Groups and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.
